SIGNBOARDS.

Sib,—Why is it that such a ridiculous by-law as that which prohibits signboards overhanging the footpath is allowed to exist in Napier ?- What are our Borough Councillors elected for ? Are they not supposed to respect the property and wishes of thoaa who assist to eleot them? If so, why don't they at onoa repeal thia Wo. bylaw, and rf plaoe it with a. taore reasonable one, so that a tradesman may have hie sign where it can easily bo seen and of some use to him, say at eight feet or more above the fOQtpath ?. I ehould also suggest that shopkeepers and others interested; in tho iuatfer petition the OounoiJ to. that effect, for I can see no reason why the interest of a few should be considered to the detriment of the many.—l am, ate., SIONBOASS. Kapier, April 18, 1896. -. /'
