FOOTBALL.
To-morrow's football on the Retreation GrouDd promises to be of an exceedingly interesting nature. In view of the inbrprovinoial fixture with Wellington, whioh takes place a week hence, the Union have arranged a match between the probable fifteen of Hawke's Bay and a chosen team representing the Waipawa Union, and as the teams, which were published on Wednesday evening, are strong combinations, a cloeo and exciting same shou'd ensue. Additional interest will attach itself to the match, seeing this will b3 the fi'Bt appearance in Napier of a fifteen representing tho newly-foimed Waipawa Union. A visitor; from Wellington states that the team chosen to meet Hawke's Bay will be very strong, and therefore it behoves every man on the field to-morrow to show bis true form. The mfttoh will commence at 2.30 sharp, in order to allow the Waipawa team to return homo by the 4.20 train. Mr Bennett will act as referee. The Hawke's Bay team will pay in representative jerseys and the visitors in bliok color.*.
'the Rugby Union met last night, Mr Saiuabury ia the chair. Ihe County Club wrote claiming refund of fares and guarantee of trains in return matches away from home, and the matter w«s deferred for enquiry In consequence of the senior match on Saturday starting at 2.30, the junior match for Saturday fit&rs v. Clive was postponed. Me?srs faiaroa, Morris, &nd Oullen were added to liat of referees. Mr Taiaroi was appointed referee in Harriers v. County match at Hastings, on Saturday, and failing him Mr Cullen. Mr Beunott was appointed referee for the Waipawa v. Probable matoh. Notioo of motion was tabled to rescind resolution tbat County v Napier match be replayed.
