The following document waa found among Redfern's effeots: — " After ten years' servioe my resignation was read in silence. When I twitted Mayor Paisley about it, he replied, ' If I led off, would all have followed suit in your praise ?' That points decidedly to the spiteful kind of man he is. I swore Burwood should Buffer. It took from then to early February to make up my mind what form my rengeance should take, when I decided to leave them without a history for the whole of their existence from March, 1874, to February, 1894. Kevenge is sweet, though bought with the burning leaves of books or blood."
