The annual meeting of subscribers to the Waipawa Public Library was held last night, the attendance being very small. After the minutes of the previous annual meetiug had been read and confirmed, the balance-sheet was read as follows:—.Receipts—Bank balance, £69 14s 4d; subscriptions, £29 18a; interest, £1 ss; hire of flags, 10s; rent of room, £4 8s; sale of wante paper, £2 7s Id; donation, £1 2s; total, £109 4s od. Expenditure—Lighting, £5 6s; insurance, £2 16e 3d; advertising, 10s ; law expenses, £3 3s ; newspapers, £9 'Os 9d; now books, £15 12s 6d; sundries, 11s ; fixed deposit, £50 ; bank balance, £16 18s lid; total, £109 4s sd. The report, after going fully into the recent correspondence with the attorneys in the , Howell estate, went on to state that there had been an increase of subscriptions during the past year, and the expenses of maintenance reduced. The sum of £ i i> 2s 6d fornew books was included in the expenditure; also £9 10a 9d for newspapers. The actual cost of the reading room, however, was only £7 Sβ Bd, as there had been re-sales of papers amounting to £2 7m Id. Tuero are 47 subscribing members. A total of 110 volumes of new books have been added during the past year. Thanks were returned to the Herald, TkleGeaph, News, Mail, Bush Advocate, Examiner, Fahiatua Star, Bangitikei Advocate, Manawatu Times, Wellington Post, arid Wairoa Guardian, for free copies. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Mr S. Johnson was re-elected president, and Mr J. Harker hon. secretary and treasurer. The following committee were elected . — Messrs Tuely, Enowles, Nash, Mogridgo, and Dγ God fray. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the president and members of the committee for past services, and the usual vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.

■ The meeting convened this evening for the purpose of forming-a Football Club has been postponed to Monday next, in consequence of another meeting intervening.

Mr Horace Chester is billed to appear in Waipawa again, the hall being engaged for the 7th April, the night of the Waipawa County Racing Club's autumn meeting. Mr Chester is a first-class performer in his own particular line, his impersonations being exceedingly clever.
