The Rakautahi case was the first called on at the Native Land Court; yesterday morning, but adjourned till 2 p.m., to enable the applicants to arrange the order of their cases. At 2 o'clock Mr Fraser, on behalf of Mr Loughnaa, of Hastings, who represented Hori Nia Nia, applied for a> further adjournment till 10 o'clock to-day (Tuesday). Mr Gannon on behalf of someclaimants, applied for the adjournment of the case to Hastings. Judge O'Brien stated he had received complaints by, natives of excessive charges, and instanced a case"where £1 per week rent had been asked for a| small house. It has not been decided whether Ngapairuru or Rakautahi will be "■ taken first, but the former case will b& ; heard either at Panevirke or Waipawa. 'i A very enjoyable evening was spent last night at the social inaugurated by the mem-/" bers of Mr Williamson's singing claee. Between sixty and seventy guests were present. The first portion of the evening was taken up with glees, rounds, and solos by members of the class, which tended' to show that very creditable progress has been made under Mr Williamson's tuition in a short space of time.
