DRUNKEN SAILORS.
Dunedin, This day. At the City Court William Revlech and Joseph Bright, sailors, wero to-day charged with assaulting tho police under circumstances nearly leading to a riot off George street on Saturday night. Tho men, who were drunk, had been fighting, and as tho police endeavored to put them in a conveyance to tako them to tho watch-house, the crowd rushed them, throwing .tones. Some well known citizens came to the assistance of the police, but tho crowd managed to rescue Bright. They were followed to the station by a crowd of nearly 2000 poople, who hooted tho police all the way. Prisoners admitted tho drunkenness, but know nothing of tho occurrence. Both wero fined £5 or a fortnight's imprisonment. Bright was also fined £5 for fighting.
