A CALL TO THE REV. THOMAS SPURGEON.

Dunedin, This day. At to-day's sittings of the -Baptist Conference tho Committee appointed to see the Rev. Thomas Spurgeon relative to his continuance in the colony reported that Mr Spurgeon was quite willing to consider any proposal in that direction. The following resolution was carried: — " That the Assembly, believing in the eminent fitness of Mr Spurgeon for the work "of an evangelist, and tbe great service he hus done by visiting our churches for special services, and that it would render them and the oauso of Christ at largo a lasting benefit, authorise this committee to enter into an argument with him to this end, and to open a guarantee fund to ensure him honorable maintenance while engaged in the service of the Union." A sub-ooniraittee was appointed to give effect to this resolution, and in the event of it being carried out, the church receiving his aid must take reasonable steps for meeting the expense of the mission.
