The adjourned meeting of tho Rovers Cricket Club again lapsed for want of a quorum on Saturday evening. The best thing that can be done now is to realise on tho assets of the club und satisfy the debts of long Buffering creditors.
A meeting of the Charitable Aid Board was hold this afternoon. Present:—The Mayor (in the chair), and Messrs Cohen, J. N. Williams, and Begg. Since last meeting one inmate of the refuge had died. It was decided that in future the office should only be open on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. For the doctor's residence a now stove was to be got, the matter being left to tho chairman and Mr Cohen to attend to.
Two cafes of criminal libel occupied the attention of the R.M. at the R.M. Court this afternoon, when Richard D. Jones was charged on the information of Henry Bo'jdley, of Mohaka, hotelkeeper, with having written a certain letter containing malicious matter concerning informant. The alloged libel was contained in a letter written by the defendant to J. S. Jones, Napier. The defendant was also charged with libelling a man named James Turner, of Mohaka. Mr Dick appeared for the informant, and Mr Cresswell for defendant. Tim defendant was committed for trial on both charges. Bail was allowed, himself in one surety of £25, aud two sureties of £50 each.
A sitting of the Superior Court of Bankruptcy was held this morning before the Registrar, when orders woro mado relejising the late Deputy Official Assignee (Mr J. Sidey) from his office ia respect of the following estates.: —John Laugley, of Napier, carpenter ; Fred. James Harford, of Napier, plumber; Samuel Smith; of Kumevoa, laborer; Fred. Wells, of Nupier, carpenter; Hannah Cassandra Taylor, of Hastings, dressmaker; Patrick MoGreevy, of Waipnwa, butc'aor; Hans Olsen, of Norsewood, butcher ; Charles Kaikes, of Napier, drawing master; and Thos. Robson, of Hastings, contractor.
A raeetjng- of the Hospital Trustees was held this afternoon. Present : Messrs. Orieoud (in tho chair), Cohen, Begg, and J. N. Williams. A letter was read from Dr. Menzied, stating he h»d been summoned to give evidence in the Waitaara Wi case, and Dr. Hitchings would aat for lu'ro during his absence. This course was approved. Nurse Lees was granted one month's holiday, to visit her home and the Exhibition. Accounts to the amount of £145 5s 8d were passed for payment, of which £34 5s had been received from patients, leaving net cost of tho institution £111 0s Bd.
