subjects, aud we believe tbafc very much of our legislation limiting their independence to do what they please with their own would, on appeal to the Privy Council, bo declared ultra vires. Mr Ballanco is of course a conspicuous persomige amongst those who wish to meddle with tho liberty of Europeans nnd Maoris in the matter of land transactions. He meddled to some purposo when as Native Minister ho was capable of inflicting great injustice on both races by bis mischievous legislation. We trust the Government will firmly stand by their native measures, aud regard with the gravest suspicion any amendments coming from a quarter controlled by such men as Messrs Sallance, Cadman, and Smith.
