The case of Garnham v. H. B. fieid, a claim for £50 on dishonored promissory note, was heard, at the R.M. Court this afternoon. Tho plaintiff put in the P.N., which tho Bank had handwiover to him. The Glasgow Herald aays :—Tho first entire cargo of Kauri pine over imported into Glasgow is at present being discharged at Yorkhill Wharf ox Aurora, from Kaipara, a little port to the north-west of Auckland. This limber is alone found in extonsivo forests in tho North Island of New Zealand. Tho trees grow " tall and grand." The largest known specimcu measures 72 feot in circumference and 80 feet to the branches, and is aged about 2,000 years. The wood appears to be nearly faultier being free from knots and strakes. Tho sizes landed hore confirm tho stories of "mammoth" Kauri pine trees. We have seen one plank at Yorkhill 15 i'eot long, 9 indies thick, and <!.!■ feet wido ! Wider planks could bo sent i/tkoy were needed.
It may not bo known to tho raugcra of tho Acclimatisation Sorioty that, the Tutitekuri river, below McaneCj is (jwavming with youii"- carp, and that tho children are amusing themselves by catching thorn wholesale with nets. Wo dare say that liny carp is us nice as whitebait, but it is a pity that tho fish should bo wholly destroyed.
