"HIPPO'S" TIPS FOR TO-MORROW.

Should to-morrow be fine (of which I am afraid there is some doubt), there should be a good crowd of spectators to witness tho first day's racing of the Hawko's Bay

Jockey Club's autumn meeting. Should there bo no rain in the meantime, tho course will be very hard, and some fast times should be made. The fields in most of the events are good, aud some good finishes may bo expected. I'RliE HANDICAP. The first raoe, which is advertised to start at 1 p.m., will be the Free Handicap, for which 12 havo accepted. The pick of the lot on paper is undoubtedly Tetford. For the Hawke's Bay Cup, 1-J mile, he has paid up with Sat 81b, and for tho Railway Stakes, of -J-mile, he has also paid up with Ost, and now for the Free Handicap, of 1 mile, he has only Tat i:>lb. At Auckland, in the Victoria Ilandioap, of 1 milo and a distance, with Bst 101b, he won in lmin 5S j-sei-. It is a long time since he had such a " chuck in "as ho Ins now. If he cannot win tho Free Handicap I don't sec his chance in either of the other events. They soy ho is not game, and if collared and pushed is apt not to try. My tips for this event aro— TETFORD 1 TONGARIRO 2 MISS DARGON .. .. 3 HANDtCNP HURDLE RACE. The next event will be the Handicap Hurdle Race, of 2J miles, for which 9 havo accepted. Gennaine, with 1 Ost -lib, or lib more than she won tho Wau_raiiui Hurdle Race with, is well in. If Premium is as well as he was at the Napier Park at the New Year's Day mcetitig, he will have a big say in it. For this event I shall tip— GERMAINE 1 PREMIUM 2 TRES SEC ;; hawke's pay cur. The Hawko's Bay Cup, 1 ; J miles, will be the next and chief event of the meeting, for which 11 havo paid up, and 9 will most likely go to tho post. lam afraid the hard courso will bo a little against Sextant. Cruchfield would also just now like a course less jarring. From the first, as soon as the weights appeared, I picked Pearl (if well on the day), Sextant. Salisbury, and Cruchfield as being the best in. I shall pi.k — PEARL 1 CRUCHFIELD .. ..2 SEXTANT -i NURSERY PLATE. The Nursery Phi to is the next ou the list, for which there are -1 entered. So much depends upon the start for a short race like this, that some of the young ones aro sure to bo fractious, aud the start may upset the chance of some, but with a go >d st-irt I think Mr Butler's Apremont—Flattery fitly has the foot of the others, and I shall place them thu. ADULATION 1 MAN FRIDAY .. .. 2 REDWOOD 3 . WELTER HANDICAP. The Welter Handicap, \\ miles, has T left in, and I shall tip them in the following i order :— i SILENCE 1 TETFORD 2 PREMIUM 3 RAILWAY ST ARKS. ' The Railway Stakes, |- mile, will be tho ' last race of the day. There are 12 re- \ maining in for this event, but I think only $or 9 will start. As Cinderella will start "a fresh mnro for this race, I don't see what is ■ to beat her. Pearl will have had one race { out of her. My tips aro ' CINDERELLA .. ..1 I PEARL or TONGARIRO .. 2 i SALISBURY 3 i ST. LEOER. * For the St. Leger, on the second day, I '' look to it being a gift to Sextant, if he is \ all right. If Cruclitield cannot boat him in the Cup, he has no chance in the St. Legei. * where he meets him on 1 Tibs worse terms. v
