At 2.30 the ties for twientieth. position for both belts ■were fired off. Seaman Mahoncy, of Wanganui, was beaten byGunner Lnmsden, of Auckland, in the carbine competition, and Volunteer Bout and Corporal Fairs, both of Auckland, finished in front of Corporal Maddock, of Blenheim, for the rifles. The carbine representatives then fired ior the belt. M'Corkindalo kept his lead and wound up his shots with a bull's eye, at which he was loudly cheered. His total aggregate was 478, or 13 ahead of Parslow. Howe and Webster tied for third place, with 462 each, and therefore had to fire off three shots to decide third position, the result being that "Webster took third place and Howe fourth. Thorburn, who had been seventh, passed both Weir and Drnmmond, and took fifth place. Immediately the i - esult was known M'Corkindalo was rushed by his comrades, and was carried shoulder high through the camp, and he received many congratulations for his steady shooting throughout the meeting. After a few minutes delay tho rifle representatives appeared at the 600 yards range to decide who should be the winner of the belt. Tho interest taken in this contest was intense, as there was only a difference of two points between Captain Little and Captain White. Tho contest was very close, and when each had but one shot to fire there was only a difference of one point between the two, Little being then 473, while White was 472, but the latter succeeded in securing the belt by two points. His win was an exceedingly popular one among the Northern contingent, and he too was carried shoulder high through the camp. Tho winners of the rifle and carbine challenge cups were decided by the highest scores in the final stage for the belts, and Captain Rogers secured the former with the good score of 35 out of 50, while seaman Chapman of the Lyttelton Navals appropriated the latter with a total of 29ji' At tho conclusion of the champion - . shipff-the team match was again proceeded with, and was finished before six o'clock, the Gordon Rifles (Auckland) taking first prize) the yictoria Rifles (Auckland) second, and,tho Thames Rangers third. Immediately, after the teams match was finished the pm.es were presented in the camp by the Mayoress.
