N.Z. RIFLE ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL MEETING.
» SEVENTH DAY. [pee peess association.] Hillsborough, Yesterday. The Staff and Press match, 10 .shots at 200 yards, was proceeded with this afternoon, and resulted in a win for Mr Hardcastle, a member of tbe local Press, with a score of 40 points, Major Atkinson fiecond with 38, and Major Ross third with 37. The council have decided to separate the carbines and rifles in the team matches, and the prize money (£150) is to be divided pro rata according to the number of entries. This decision has given great dissatisfaction to the rifle representatives, and there was some talk of them withdrawing from the match altogether, but they have decided to go on. The question of the distribution of prize money between tho rifles and the carbines iv the team match is always a sore point with the competitors, and it is hoped that the next meeting all will be able to fire with one weapon—the Martini-Henry.' At the conclusion of the New Plymouth match, Lieutenant Ross, the present champion, finished with an aggregate of 388 points, 4 points behind the twentieth man left in for the final.
