Messrs Nelson Bros. (Limited) havo received the following report from their London house:—" In our experience of the frozen mutton trade we have never known Bnch a concurrence of unfavorable influences as have appeared in the Meat Market since we last addressed you. Home killed mutton has been super-abundant, both at Smithfield and in the provinces, probably through the requirements of Michaelmas Rent-Day. Continental mutton arrived in large quantities, beef became a perfect drug, while geeso and game helped liberally the food supply, which had to be sold as rapidly as possible owing to tho mildness of the weather. Such a state of matters must have affected the frozen meat market even had it been in a healthy condition, which it is not at the present time for the damaged parcels mentioned in our last are still being sold, while heavy supplies from New Zealand, South America, and Queensland (beef) have so over-filled the storage accommodation of London that some consignees have been obliged to force recent arrivals of mutton on to the market, with what result will bo best known when account sales are rendered. Under these circumstanceo wo will not venture to give current quotations for New Zealand mutton or lamb."
