FIRM DEMAND AT THE WOOL SALES.
SALE OF AUSTRALIAN FROZEN MUTTON. THE LONDON DAILY TELEGRAPH AND THE ANNEXATION CONFERENCE. TENNYSON TO BE RAISED TO THE PEERAGE. (Received December 5, 1.50 a.m.)
LONDON.
December 3. At to-day's wool auction a iirm and active demand was experienced for the various lots offered. The catalogue comprised. 8200 bales. The cargo of frozen mutton, consisting of 3050 carcasses, ivhieh arrived on the 2-Ist November from Melbourne per steamship Garonne, but was .stored owing to the market being temporarily glutted, was placed on the market to-day, when the carcasses offered realised from s{d to okl per pound. The meat was in fair condition, but too fat. December 4. In its issue this morning the Daily Telegraph, in rcferriig to the Intercolonial Conference now sitting at Sydney, bails with acclamation the union of the Australian Colonies, and wishes good speed to the proposed federation. It is reported that Mr Tennyson, the poet laureate, will shortly be raised to the peerage.
