MR MITCHELSON AT DARGAVILLE.

Auckland, This day. A banquet Avas given to the Hon. E. Mitchelson on Thursday night at Dargaville. Dr. Norton presided. Mr G. M. Dargaville, M.H.R., and nearly all the leading residents were present. Mr Dargaville. in responeling to the toast of "The General Assembly," said that after his little difficulty with Major Atkinson they were none the avoi-so friends. He traced the history of Mr Mitchelson from his first start in the district to the present time, and most heartily congratulated him on the position he had attained. Air Mitchelson, in responding-, said: I am glad to sco so many personal friends and the faces around me of those who have known me in this district for years_ past. I am proud to represent this district in Parliament. 1 have only been a short, time there, and am the youngest member of the House, and I feel" deeply having such a responsibility placed upon my shoulders. I hope I may long have the honor to represent this district, but you must remember that I now occupy a position that entitles the Avhole colony to look to me, and therefore I must work for tho colony as a Avhole. But Avhile working for the * colony I shall not foiget mv constituents. In my capacity as Minister" for Public AVorks I shall do my duly to the colony without distinction. I hope that this district may succeed, and my efforts shall be used to make it the most prosperous district in the North Island. I hope it will not be my fault if I fail to please you in every Avay.
