BAD WEATHER IN THE SOUTH.— HEAVY FLOODS IN CANTERBURY.
Dunedin, This day. The Avcather is cold, Avet, and cheerless. Christchurch, This day. Heavy rain set in again last night, and continued almost Avithout intermission till daylight this morning. It is still raining at".short intervals. All the riA'crs are in flood, and it is feared extcnsiA-e damage will be done. The north train Avas unable to get beyond Sefton this morning, and the southern express has boon stopped at Ashburton through fears being entertained as to the safety of the Rangitata bridge. Timaru, This day.
It has been raining very heavily here for the last thirty-six hours, and there tire extensive floods north and south of Timaru. There is 4-i feet of water in the main street at Temuka, aud a number of houses are inundated. The express train from the north could not get beyond Orari owing to the damage to the railway line. The south train is stuck up at Makikiki owing to the same cause. The Albury line is also damaged, and communication is stopped. The rivers tire all overfioAving their banks, and a good deal of damage is expected. It is still raining heavily.
