M. Gambetta has been compelled to have one of his forefingers amputated in consequence of the recent accident. The Government have decided upon granting a general gratuity to the Irish constabulary as some recognition of their faithful services under very trying circumstances. Arabi Pasha has written a letter to The Times newspaper, in which he affirms that England will at some future date acknowledge the justice of his cause aod that he was justified in raisins; the standard of revolt on behalf of Egyptian liberties. The Italian Government are making some important changes in the military organisation of the kingdom. It is intended to increase the efficiency of tbe national militia by insisting upon the various battalions being more frequently called out, and for longer periods, for drill and manoeuvres. December 7. The people of Manchester are unanimous" in their determination to persevere with the scheme for constructing a ship canal to connect Manchester with the mer Mersey, their object being toseenre tbe advantages of direct sea communication, without, as at present, having to receive and send their goods via Liverpool. It has been decided that colonial banks having their bead offices in London must collect the income-tax upon the deposits of their enstotuers. At a fire at the Albambra Theatre today several of the firemen who were engaged in extinguishing the flames were killed by the falling of burning material. Tbe Prussian Chamber of Deputies has voted tbe sum of 100,000 marks
towards the fund formed for the relief of the sufferers by the recent inundation. [Reuters Telegrams.]
