November 52. Messrs Andrew Young and George Fisher were nominated to-day for the Mayoralty. The election takes place on the 29th. Tasman has been scratched for the Wellington Cup. The girl Annie Freebody was surren • dered to his Honor Mr Justice Richmond in Chambers yesterday by virtue of a writ of habeas corpus, and afterwards delivered over to the custody of her sister. The ketch Elizabeth, which went ashore near the entrance to the Otaki river recently, has been launched into the river, and docs not seem to have received any injury. The cargo of frozen meat for the ship Lady Jocelyn, which 19 to load here in February, is already secured, applications having been received from shareholders alone for a space in excess of that at the disposal of the Wellington Meat Export Company. The erection of a lighthouse at Waipapa Point, Otago, will shortly be proceeded with. The tower will be constructed of totara and kauri. The Government steamer Stella will leave here with a portion of the material early next month. The light will be one of the second order—white, with a flash every ten seconds. The apparatus has been ordered from Home, and is expected to arrive before the tower is ready. Mr Whiting, who is to have charge of the works, will leave by the Stella. Waipapa Point is the spot where the pteamer Tararna was wrecked.
