WELLINGTON.
November 21. At a meeting of the Executive Council this morning tbe case of Antonio Goschnell. recently found guilty and sentenced to death for the murder near Normanby (Taranaki), was considered, and it was decided to commute the sentence to penal servitude for life. The Aurora Australis was very brilliant last night. A small store and dwelling houae at Otaki were destroyed by fire on Sunday night. The buildings were insured for £300, but the loss is estimated at £600 above that amount. The origin of the fire is unknown. A number of summonses have been taken out by the Registrar - General against persons who have neglected to vaccinate their children.
