The Premier wa9 present at the Guild Hall banquet held yesterday evening, Lord Mayor's day, and in the course of his speech referred at some length to the present aspect of affairs in Ireland. Mr Gladstone laid great emphasis upon the continued domination of crime in that country. He added, however that the situation had of late shown considerable improvement, and that a tendency to seek redress of grievance by peaceful and legal means was evidently reviving.
