THE SAILING MATCH.

For Saturday afternoon's sailing match in the innner harbor only two boats started, namely, the Wave Queen and Revenge. Two other of the club's craft, however, arrived at the fla ghip too late to compete. A good start was effected at 3.25 p.m., both boats swerving and filling together. A strong west-nor'-westerly wind was blowing at the time, making it almost a dead beat up to the first buoy, during -which time the Kevenge had considerably the best of it, rounding first and maintaing the lead until ehe passed the flagship on the first round, three minutes ahead of her opponent. About this time the wind began to fall light and very shy, and, although reefs were at once shaken out, the Wave Queen began to show to the front, and before reaching the first buoy passed to windward of the Revenge, who, having only her storm sails with her, was at a disadvantage, ■while the former boat was able to set the whole of her racing gear, thus enabling her to come in a tolerably easy winner, with five minutes to spare. Three cheers were given by the losing boat to the winner, which was heartily responded to. The Buttercup on this occasion did not put in an appearance, her owners, having an eye to her reputation, probably thinkthat discretion was the better part of valor. We, however, think that a day such as last Saturday gives a far better chance to display both seamanship on the part of the crew and seaworthiness on that of the boat, and we should have liked to have seen a greater number turn up.
