(by' telegraph.) Wanganui, October 23. The sixth meeting of the Trotting Club was held on Saturday. Tbe weather was wet and unfavorable, and there was but a small attendance. MAIDEN TROTTING RACE, One mile heats, best two in three; for horses that have not won a public trotting race of the value of 5 soys; stakes 25 soys., second horse to receive 5 SO7S. First Heat. — Lingard's Jack, 1; Keith's Rambler, 2. Three others started. Time, 3mine. Gfsecs. Second Heat. — Jack and Rambler tied. Time, 3mins. Hsecs. Thihd Heat.—Jack, 1 ; Ramler, 2. Time, 3mins. 7secs. HANDICAP TROTTING MATCH, For horses in harness; mile heats, best two in three; stakes 30 soys., second horse to receive 5 soys. from the stakes. First Heat.—Powell's Wakatu (17 sees,), 1; Higgie's Castaway (20 sees.) 2. Time, 3mins. 25secs. Second Heat.—Castaway, 1 ; Jack, 2. Time, 3mins. 34secs. Wakatu would have won easilj , but he broke away coming in. TRIAL STAKES, Of 20 soys; a trotting race for green horses at the time of entry ; 2 miles. Keith's Rambler 1 Higgie's Solicitor ... ... ... 2 M'Elwain's Dan 3 Won easily. Time, 6mms. 57secs. WANGANUI HANDICAP, A trotting race of 65 eovs., 3 miles. Jas. Higgie's Castaway, 58 sees. (Chavannes) ... ... ... ... 1 Keith's Speculation, 43 sees. (Owner) 2 Sam. Powell's Wakatu, 43 sees. (Owner) 3 A very close contest. Rambler and Jack were outpaced. Wakatu broke badly several times or he would have won easily. Time, 9mins. 15secs. CONSOLATION HANDICAP. Of 15 soys., 2 miles. Keith's Speculation, scratch 1 M'lwain's Dan, 34 sees. ... ... 2 Higgie's Solicitor 3 Only the three started. The race resulted in a close finish between Dan and Speculation.
