INVERCARGILL.
October 20. News has been received from Stewart Island that a man named Marks, belonging to the cutter Dauntless, was drowned by slipping an oar while sculling a dingy, which caused him to fall o?erboard. A drayman named Thomas Maize, an old resident, was killed last night by the running away of a horse on the Eastroad. The horse had a bad character for bolting. Maize's neck was broken either by the fall or by the wheel of the cart the horse was drawing.
