MELBOURNE.
October 6. The captain of the steamer Arawata reports having been delayed by a head wind, causing tbe supply of coals to run short, and when off Wilson's Promontory she obtained thirty tons from a passing vessel. October 7. A daring but unsuccessful attempt was made at midday yesterday to break into the branch of the Commercial Bank of Australasia at Avenel. The manager was absent at the time, but the alarmiwas given, and one of the burglars was captured. The other, however, escaped, though he w>is chased for some miles through the bush.
