WELLINGTON.
September 18. Bunting on the vessels in harbor and on the principal business places was displayed to day in honor of the victory over Arabi Pasha. The Government have cabled to the Agent-Geueral to cable the extent of
tbe damage done to the New Zealand mails by the fire on tho Alaska. Messrs Dick and Bryce will leave shortly for the North. The former goes on an official visit through the North Island, and Mr Bryce goes to meet Tawhiao to endeavor to make satisfactory arrangements for opening up the country. Messrs Oliver and Rolleston, it is expected, will leave Wellington for the South in a few days on private business.
