The following team will represent Wellington in the football match againet Sydney : — Messrs Beard, Campbell, Cooper, Harvey, Hirschberg, Heenan, Morrison, JVlcMaster, McCurdell, Peat, Roberts, Ronaldson, Somerville Thomson and Udy. The New South Wales team will arrive here from Auckland by the Hawea on Thursday night or Friday morning, and the match will be played on Saturday next.

In chambers yesterday, before Mr Justice Richmond, the issues (34 in number) were settled in the pleading suit of W. J. Hunt v. His Excellency Sir Arthur Gordon. An application to change the venue to Christchurch was refused. Counsel for defendant applied to have the evidence of Sir Arthur Gordon and one witness taken in London by commission. His Honor took time to consider this point. The case will be heard before Mr Justice Richmond at the civil sittings in January, and is expected to extend over a week. Mr E. Shaw has been retained for Mr Hunt, and Messrs Bell, Conolly, and Harper for Sir Arthur.

The programme of the New Zealand Rifle Association has been issued. The first three matches are open to all comers, and the remaining four are confined to Volunteers only. The former count for either rifle or carbine belt. Of the latter, two count for carbine championship and two for rifle championship. The first match is at 300 and 500 yards, with 49 prizes, amounting to £119 and the Nelson's citizens' cup. The second and third matches are at. 200 yards, with 36 prizes for each amounting to £100 each. The fourth match for the rifle belt is at 200,500, and 600 yards, with 37 prizes amounting to £120. The fourth match for the carbine belt is also at 200, 300, and 500 yards, with 46 prizes amounting to £109. The fifth match for the rifle belt is at 500 and 600 yards, with 36 prizes amounting to £100. The fifth match for the carbine belt is at 300 and 500 yards, with 36 prizes amounting to £110 10s. The twenty highest aggregate scorers for rifles and the same for carbines fire a second stage match at 600 and 500 yards respectively. Ties for places in the twenties fire shot for shot, the highest aggregate scores in all the matches being champions. Ties for the championship to be decided for shot for shot. Five grand aggregate prizes in each case, varying from £50 to £5. Cavalry match at 200 and 500 yards. Rifle and carbine trophy matches the same as in the i previous year. Carbine and rifle team match the same as last year, but the . prizes increased to £40, £20, £10, and £5 in each cafe. The Otago Rifle Association's ladies , challenge shield will also be fired for, but is restricted to certain Otago corps. The firing will commence on Friday the 3rd of November, and will be completed by Wednesday the 7th. The Government have authorised the issue of free railway passes to Volunteer members of the association under certae conditions. The entries are to be on or before Saturday, the October.
