Mr William Walters, the racehorse owner, died yesternight, aged 54 years. He was an old colonist of forty years standing. An empty ten-roomed house in windmill road was destroyed by fire last night. It was insured for £300, but the office is unknown. The origin of the fire is unknown. Mr 0. B. Stone has been elected a director of the Mutual Insurance Company. Between 70,000 an , ] 80,000 shares have been taken up. The following additional insurances have been ascertained in connection with the fire at Walker's block on Monday night :—Murphy, the fruiterer's, stock and furniture (damaged), £200 in the Norwich Union ; Ambrose and English's dairy (damaged), £50 in the Colonial.
