DUNEDIN.

September 5. At the City Court to-day Robert Warnes was charged with fraudulent bankruptcy. The police applied for a remand so as to enable them to ascertain whether it was desirable to have the case heard here or at Oamaru. The prisoner wished to be sent to Oamaru immediately, and the Bench granted the remand. This is the first case under the Criminal Fugitives Act. The Standard Insuranc Coropai>y has

declared a dividend of 7£ per cent for the half-year. Leading members of the legal profession in Dunedin who have been consulted on the subject have, in opposition to the opinion just given by the SolicitorGeneral, advised that the license fees under the Licensing Act and the Dog Registration Act are payable to County Councils and not to Town Boards.
