December 5. A message from Westport states that a smart shock of eartbquaqke was felt there at 7.30 this morning. The pictures on tbe walls swung, and the window weights rattled in their cases. The shock was also felt at Hokitika at 7.47, the duration being half a minute. The direction was from south to north. Tbe Hon. Mr Oliver leaves for the South this afternoon. The nominations for the House of Representatives are now completed, and 241 candidates have been nominated for the 95 seats (including the Maori districts). Of these, however, two have retired, and twelve have been elected without opposition. A slight shock of earthquake was felt here at 7.30 this morning.
