Seventy persons have signed a petition praying the Government to form a new light infantry Volunteer corps in Christchurch.
Mr J. H. Lee is announced as a candidate for Kaiapoi, the seat in the House of Assembly vacated through the resignation of Mr C. C. Bowen. Three other candidates are .poken of. The weather lately has been very dry and hot, and rain is much required.
