July 25. At the Police Court to-day James Pollock Holmes, charged with embezzling £18 of Government moneys received by him as a bailiff at Invercargill, was remanded to Invercargill. A four-roomed house at Kaikorai, owned by Alfred Martin, was burned down yesterday. It was insured in the South British office for £100. John Swa'dinc has died at West Taurei from the effects of exposure. He lost his way on the 18fh. He had been drinking. When found two days later he was insensible.
