July 25. In view of the general election Mr J. FI. L. Stoke Grange is mentioned as a probable candidate for one of the North Canterbury constituencies.
The weather ii still unsettled, but it looks like clearing. It has been the heaviest rainfall for thirteen years. A considerable depth of water is standing on theyoung crops in some districts, and t is feared much damage will be done.
