The returns from 86 shools in the principal parts of Otago show that 2966 parents, representing 10,250 children, are in favor of the introduction of the Bible into the public schools, and tbat 432 parents, representing 1175 children, are against it. At the meeting of the Jockey Club last night a letter was read from Mr Lance re the scratching of Natator. Mr Lance says he did so in order not to risk the horse's chance at Wanganui, as it war not worth while to start against Randwick, for whom he always considered the handicap a good thing. A strong feeling was expressed by the meeting that tbe letter was unsatisfactory, but, in view of the importance of the case, and the small attendance, it was decided to hold a special meeting in a week's time.
