MINI NG NEWS. GR AH A M S TO WN, Tuesday.
Mam Kvu. -The lich proapoctd of th'i niino arc vi ry much enhanced by recent operations —especially towards tho south end of iho mine at tho main level. As your readers are all oady aware, ft slide or crosi-conrsa camo in and cut tho m.iiu reef oil" at a distance of 4t)ft. south of the shaft, and it hai not yot hoc n recovered beyond it, but tho block botween the shaft and tho slide ia turning out reniaikably rich. Tho clsus of rook ia of very superior (juality, and gold shows very frenly, Somo lino upeciuivns camo to hand from it ycntoiday and to-day. Tho wiii? > from tho IJiOft. level to the main level is now broken through, ao that tl'o two level i aro in direct communication, and stoping ni both can bo carried on at the siimo linn. Tliero 13 a rich show of gold in this lev< 1 also. Ciuahing ia goiug on aa usual, and the stuff ia shovtiug up well for a good all-round average. Pumimno Association —Tho sinking of tho main nliaft has already mado fiomo pio great», and tho 12 inch lift ia now bi-m^ attached in tho now portion of tho shaft. Thoie was somo timo spent in constructin ; dams to piovtnt tho water from (lowing hit > the nliaft and for conducting it into Mm cisterns. Owing to the open character of the country this was rather a dillicuit worK, but it now appears to bo satisfactorily t fleeted by concrete and cement. Of course this was (juito a necessary work, m order that thore Bhould be as little water as po - bible to he raided by tho 12 inch diaw lift. Tho contractor and tho manager appear to be quite aatihlicd that tho 12 inch lift will bo sufhoient to deal with tho diaiuagc coming in from tho bottom, so long as the uppor drainage is prevented from flowing into the shaft with the umallor puraps. Tho work <>f sinking can be carried on with much greater expedition than would bo tho enso if they were compelled to continue tho sinking with tho larger column. — [Corrrnpondent.]
