ANNUAL MEETINGS OF HIGHWAY BOARDS. REMUERA.

Tiir annual meeting of the above Board was held yesterday at. the Church Schoolroom. Mr. C Lewis in the chair. The Secretary, Mr. J. L Wihou read the balance sheet which was adopted, ► howing for the past year tho receipts £(M2 Us. 91. The expenditure, £079 8i Id. Mr. Barber move I, and Mr J S. King seconded "that this meeting is not answei able for the expense incurred by the late B >ard in trespassing on Messrs. Ruling's laud." — Mr. Wngley moved as an amendment, that the ratepayers approve of the ATorks Lately earned out near M<nmt Hobson, by tho trustees. — 1 he amendment was carried.— Mr James Wrigley moved, "That the Superintendent be requested to carry out the resolution passed by the Provincial Counoil last session in r> ference to tho removal of the toll-gate near Newmarket," which was agreed to — Mr. Earl moved, '•That this meeting requests the trustees to endeavour to get the resolution, passed at the Provincial Council, regarding the N^wmirket Slaughter-house, carried out without delay "—A ratu of Id. iu the £ i>n the estimated value to sell was struck. Sri. ; Impounding Act, £8 4d. ; sundries, £2 14s. ; total £137 19a. 2d. — Mr. Gordon mov«d and Mr. John Murray seconded the adoption of the report, which was oarned nem con. Mr. Gordon then moved that the rate stmck for th« ensuing year be on the value to sell. — Mr. Plumley seconded the proposition which was carried — Mr. jflumley moved and Mr. Gordon seconded that a rate of one half penny iu the pound be the rate for the coming year — Mr. stringer moved and Mr. (Jalvert seconded an amendment} that| the rate be one farthing in the pound. The amendment was put and lost and the original motion carried by a large majority. — The following gentlemen were elected as members of thf Board for the ensuing year : — Messrs Bowden, Plum ey, Luke, Oalvert, E. Folcy. Mepsri. J. Hall and Alfred Sturgeos, uere elected auditors for the ensuiug year. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting.

MOUNT ROSKILL. The annual meeting of ratepayers of the Mount Roskill highw y district was held yesterday at the \lbert Inn, Epsoin, — Mr. Dornvrell was voted to the chair. the following statement of receipts and expenditure was read and adopted : — Receipts : Rates collected, £102 16a 9d ; amount received from Colonial Government, £144 3s. ; total, ■£'-SOG 19s. 9d. Expenditure : — Forming roada, £94 Gs. 8cl ; mtt.ilhng and channelling, £S1 8«. 4d ; other works, £10 ; commission for collecting rate*, £10 19s. ; "surveyors fets, £10 48. ; printing and advertising, £6 9*. 8d. ; legal expenses, £1 Is. ; sundries, £7 18s. 8d., total, £'225 7s. 4d. The balance in hand for last year amounted to £41 15s. 7d. ; and for the present year, £123 7s. 5d. A rate of one penny m the pound on the value to sell was agreed upon. The following gentlemen woie elected as trustees : Messrs. J. May, Ole»horn, Dornwell, Hoyer, aud (Jonnoll). M«ssr*. Cawkwull and Ansell, were electid as auditors for the coming year. A vote of thanks to the chairman conoluded the meeting.

WAITAKEREI EAST. The annual meeting of ratepayers vras held at the Oratea Hotel, Henderson's Mil), •yesterday, eighteen ratepayers were present. Mr. Von dir Heyde occupied the chair. The following was the balance sheet submitted to the meeting : — Receipts : Rate-t collected, £53 9* ; General Government print, £64 lls. Expenditure : — Forming i >ads, £25 ; bulges and culvuts, £47 2* ; repairs, £3 13*. ; collection of rates, £7 8% 9 '. ; salaries and rent, £3 ]0«. ; printing and advertising, £6 4s. Gd ; legal expenses, Ki 8s. 51. ; aundiit-B, £1 13s lOd. ; leaving a balauce in the bank of £23 7s. lid. —Mr. Seaman drew the attention of ratepayeis to the necessity of strict eennomy in advertising, and thought that if the collector had earned out his duties properly, a considerable siving could have been effected in the item of legal expenses, a number of i atepayers having bonn sued who would have paid on first application. Messrs. Seaman and Huston were '.hen appointed to scrutinize the votes for fixing a rate and electing trustees for the ensuing year. — Mr Smyth proposed and Mr. Bethal seconded that the. rate for the ensuing year be Id in the £ on the value to sell, ,»nd that the land be valued at £1 pir acre — agreed to unanimously There were seven gentlemen then nominated as trustees, and the result of the ballot was, that Messrs B-thel; Snell, G. Cartwel), John Smyth ai.d J. Heston, were declared to be duly elected. Some remarks were then made on the two morning papers having interpreted some clauses of the Act erroneously, but thit this had very soon been coriocted, and Mr. Seaman called the trustees attention to the clauses 18, J9, i!0, 24 and 25, which provide for filling up vacancies in the Boaid and the holding of special meetings. — A cordial vote of thanks to the late trustees was carried by acclamation, and also to Mr Von der Heyde for pro sidmg on this occasion, and the meeting aeparated in thorough good feeling.
