TO-DAY'S ELECTION.
To the Editor : Sir,— l would remind ih© ratepayers who live in private streets/ an^ those who desire to sea a market established, that Councillor Macready is, and always has been, the determined opponent of every propisal to do justice to all ratepayers alike, and has thrown every obstacle he could in the way of a market-place being established where consumers can come directly into contact with producers. Ho did not, however, oppose the cutting down of Albert-street past his own doer, nor, if rumour speaks truly, is he averse to the cutting down of Upper Queen -street and Shortland- street. The obnoxious by-law respecting smoke is avowedly supported if not instigated by him. Ratepayers have been patient and longsuffering, but it is now time that they Bhould determinedly oppose the return of any gentleman who is not willing to use his position io» tho Council for the benefit of the ratepayers ac large, and not merely to obtain advantages for himself or his personal friends. From Mr. Hurst's connection with the Provincial Government at present, I should think ho would be a desirable acquisition to tho Council. — lam, &<s., , One of the Ignored.
