Melbourne. —The Argus of September 14 reports :—" A very moderate amount of business has been transacted in the import markets to-day, but sales generally have so largely, partaken of a retail character as to i have excited little, if any, interest whatever. ! Breadstuff's show no auimation. Flour is ! offering at 141. 10s tn 151., according to brand, but only small lota are disposed of. An .attempt was made to quit an Adelaide country toadd at auction, but there was nothing sold. Adelaide wheat was at same time got rid of ' ftt 5* 11 id. About a thousand bushels prime Adelaide, disposed of privately, were placed at < 6s net. Feeding grains are very quiet. Oats, according to «ample, are held at 3a( 3d to 3s,7#,for good feeding to good milling. 5 A law odd parcels have peon * quitted at our 4 notations."

t)TA.oo.— The Daily Times of September $1 reports :— "The produce market oloswa with, a very depressed feoltog, and only the most meagre transitions have gone forward. Scarcely any sales of wheat* have oorae under notice. Holder* qu»te prices equal to last week's rates, but it is probable these will not now be sustained. Millers have had but a lijht inquiry for flour ; the quotation! aro nominally unchanged. Oats have been quitted, fair samples at 2s Sd, and some prime mil'ing at 2s 2d to 2s 4d. Since our last there has been nothing of moment going forward in the auction marts." Wellington.— The Mail of September 23 reports :— " Everything has been extremely dull during the past week, and business , matters may be generally .reported in statu quo. Transactions in flour have comparatively ceased, most of the dealers beihg stocked ; prices remain nominally at 162. to 16/. 5s for first-class Canterbury, and 172. per ton for Adelaide. Teas of the finer sort are much wanted, the market being full of last season's medium kinds. A shipment of Mauritius sugar equal in shade' to Melbourne Company's No. 1 C should pay well if packed in similar fashion, in 561b. or 701 b. canvas bags, with weight marked on each bag. Xerosine has come in fully, and prices have given way— quotations, 2u lfld per gallon. Oats are inquired for, a first-rate sample being worth 3a 2d to 3a 3d per bushel for a shipment. Mr. 6. H. Vennell sold Cresaa and Blackwell'i salad oil, pints, 13s 6A per dozen; Morton's do., 12s; whitiag, 5£ 10a per ton ; kerosine, 2a 9d and 3s per gallon."
