WHANGAREI: AGRICULTURAL SHOW.

The reports of the backward state of agriculture in the district have induced, some of our leading settlers to beatir themselves, and endeavour to get up an agricultural show, so ";hat the exact araouut of improvement in these matters may be estimated, and a stimulus given to further progress. After the axe, the plough is the best pioneer, and the able bushman must make room for the skilful farmer. Both are absolutely necessary for provincial progress ; and, while by judicious legislation, homestead laws, &c, we must push the bushman to the front, we can also, by agricultural societies, shows, , implement exhibitions, &c, do something to promote the cultiyation of tho soil. — [Correspondent.]
