CRICKET. WHAREHINE Y. WHAKAPIRAU.
The return match was played on the Port Albert ground on March 9. Owing to the state of the ground the batsmen on both bides were unable to make an average score. After the first innings the players letired to Mr. Inger s, to luncheon provided by the Wharehine Club. The game terminated in favour of the former club, with seven wickets to spare. The following is the hoovo : —■
WAIUKU Y. WAIPIPI. To-day (March 8), a cricket match was played in a paddock belonging to Mr. Constable, between eleven ratepayers of Waiuku and eleven ratepayers of Waipipi Highway -IMstricts. The forepart of the day was very fine, but towards evening we had several showers, which made everything very slippery. The match on the whole was very good. I had anticipated to see a much closer game. The bowling appeared to be superior to the batting. Messrs. Uarriball, Hatnlin, and Browning bowled on behalf of Waiuku, and Messrs. Elley and Watts on behalf of the Waipipi team. The Waipipi team were the first to handle the willow. I annex the score :—: —
