ALEXANDRA: NATIVE NEWS.

The native meeting at the Kuiti concluded last week. Kewigieatly condemned Todds murder. He asked those who wished to fight, why they did not; go to Taapo, where the people were disregarding their Jaws, by making roads through the King's country. ELECTION MATTEES. Mr. Hugh Kirkwood arrived here on Monday evening last, on a canvassing tour, for the representation of the district for which he ia a candidate. He, however, visited many of the settlers privately, and obtained many promises of support. Captain McPherson, another candidate brought out by the upper ten, was at Ohaupo yesterday, and after the sale addressed the electors. Mr. Walker proposed that the meeting had every confidence in Captain McPherS"U as their future representative ; but the meeting maintained a most oinmous silence, which some called a unanimous \ ote in favour of that geutleman's return. Mr. Kirkwood was also present duriug the day, but, having a prior engagement to address the electors of Hamilton at four o'clock, was uuable to lemain and address those present <.t the sale A meeting was also held Mr. Henderson, of Kihikihi, chairman— for the purpose of considering the present unsatisfactory state of the Waikafco, with regard to the native difficulty. Many of the most influential gentleman in the district spoke on this subject.
