AUCKLAND DISPENSARY.

The subscribers to this Society held their thirteenth annual meeting at the Mechanics' Institute yesterday afternoon, Mr. Carpenter Arthur in the chair. The following gentlemen were present : — Messrs. Buchanan (secretary), Ewen (treasurer), Edson, P. Darby, J. Wiseman, Lennox, Tonks, tfafcger, Shalders, and Dr, Kenderdine, medical officer to the Society. — The committee's report referred to the especial benefits conferred by the Society. The ni'ed of cheir help had been required this year even more than the last. The thanks of the Society were due to Dr. Kenderdine for the willing manner in which he always attended to the wants of those for whose aid the Society was founded. The balance-sheet showed that, during the year, the total amount of revenue had been 31QL 9s. 2d., of which 1501, had been a Government grant, and 147 1. subscriptions. There was a deficiency of 45J.65. lOd. Since the report has been drawn up the treasurer stated that he had received the aum cf 51 from his Honor the Superintendent, being the Bhare allotted to the Society by the Superintendent out of the aum of SQI. generously given by his Koyal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh for the charitable societies of the city. Dr. 1' enderdine's report stated that much more aid had been re quired m 1870 than in 1869, but still theie wa3 not so muca destitution as there was four years ago, and the mortality of those in receipt of the iSociety's favours this year was twenty as against thirty of last year. The number of visits, however, hail doubled. In 1869 there were 828 patients admitted ; in 1870 there were 926. In 1869 there had been 1,701 visits paid to the patients' own homes ;in )870 the number had amounted to 2,460. — Mr.Tonks stated he trusted that next year the statement of their finances would show a balance instead of a deficit.— The chairman Btated that the Society was in a better position this year than on the occasion •if its last annual meeting. — he reports and balance-sheet were then agreed to. — Votes of thanks w«re passed to the secretary, the trpasurer, and to the medical officer. — Thi £ ol lowing officers were elected for the enauiug year ; Chairman, his Honor the Superintendent; vice-chairman, Mr. Rattrayj secretary, Mr. Buchanan ; treasurer, Mr. Ewen ; committee, Messrs.
