LATEST THAM ES NEWS. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. ) MINING. Wednesday.

Dauntless and Sink-to-Kisk— The half- i yearly meeting of this company was held yesterday afternoon, at the office of the company, Grahamstown. The directors' report waa submitted to the meeting, and revealed a very satisfactory state of affairs indeed, for it was ahown that, whereas in June last, when the company's office was removed to the Thames, the liabilities of the company amounted uo £200, now that debt was not only wiped out, but £641 15s. 4d. had been paid aa dividends, in three of one shilling each. There was also £163 15 a, Bd.in hand to the credit of the company, whilst the outstanding small debts were almdst ittappPflUiable. During the above period the mine has been vigorously worked, under the management of Mr. Goldsworthy, and has yielded £1,717 19s. 9d. worth of gold ; whilst £591 Ha. haa been paid in wages. With regard to work done, the manager's report showed that 217 tons had been extracted, 360 feet of driving done, and 500 feet of tramways laid. The amount of stone extracted does not include a parcel of 100 tons now going through tbe mill at the Tramway machine. This parcel came out of No. 2 leader, between the middle and lower levels, and is expected to average over 2oz. to the ton. The meeting unanimously adopted the report submitted to it, and passed a well-merited vote of thanks to the legal manager, Mr. R. M. Scott, for the painstaking ability he had displayed in the management of the company's affairs. The following directors were elected for the ensuing half-year :— Messrs. Heldt, Parr, Cribb, Conroy, and Payne. Nonpareil. -The retorting at Goodall's was finished last night, and gave 1550z. I3dwfc. sgr.from the 172 tons crushed. The return, although notso good as expected, is stillpay able, and affords ample encouragment to proceed with the development of the mine, Another large paddock oi atone is rapidly accumulating, and it is probable that crushing will be resumed at Goodall's some time next week. Eureka. — I can report favourably upon I the new surface workings of this mine. So far as it has been followed the leader maintains a good size, and its quality, to judge | of the specimens taken out daily, is very far 1 above the average. Tnis question will, however, be decided in a few days, when the 23 tons of tbe stuff now ready have been disposed of at Goodall's machine. Crushing commences to-morrow. Tookey's Company. — The new 12-inch plunging lift was set to work last night for t the first time, and answered admirably in 1 every particular, a heavy and constant stream of water being discharged without at all distressing the engine, which worked easily with 301b. of steam on. When I visited the mine this morning the water in the main shaft had been already reduced by 60ft., and it is expected that a clay or so of further pumping will clear the mine. CJreenway's Machine resumed work again this moaning on a nine-ton parcel from the ! oW Portuguese, smkX kv« ferns horn the Buoy Rope, both Hapo Creek claims. Pketjcy Nelly Claim. — I regret to say that the tributers have just finished crushing another poor lot from this claim. Twenty tons were put throngh Bull's machine, the show being remarkably meagre. But, for all that, some are quite sure that the shoot of gold that was first struck in this claim and has paid as high 2oz. to the ton has not run out altogether, and will be found again some day. It has either taken a jump or has been overlooked through careless or inexperienced working. Golden Anchor. — Another crushing of stone from this, one of the earliest-opened t claims on Ua^e Creek, ia going on &k Rull'j machine, bufc the return of goM is not likely I to lie at all extraordinary, seeing that the stuff comes from a poor part of the surface workings. Flagship Claim. — Stoping up on the leader from the low level is being proceeded with, and, taken in the lump, the stone getting may be pronounced to be of good quality. Scarcely so many specimens however have been seen in this parcel as there were in the last one crushed ; but for all that the twenty-five or thirty tons of stuff in paddock are expected to yield well. Crushing the lot is to commence some time next week. Vickery's Machine finished a poor lot of stone from the Jupiter mine on Monday, and is now working on atone of much better quality from the Gap of Dunloe Claim, llape. There are about twenty tons of it' to go through. Balmoral, Waiotahi Creek. — Some men set into this claim the other day, and succeeded in obtaining some very fair prospects and specimens out of the old leader, and have in consequence decided. fr<? have a trial lob craved in » few days. Golden Crown. — The lower level in this company's ground is looking exceedingly well, and speaks w<jll for the return this week. Another dividend is confidently expected on Saturday. Tookey's and Caledonians will &q, benefited by the excellent appearance of the reef on the lower level. J
