PIGEON-SHORTING MATCH AT ONE TREE HILL.
On December 29, acccording to prerioui arrangement, a pigeon-shooting match between the officers of H.M.s. 'Galatea' and members of the Auckland Hamley Gun Club took place on the grounds adjoining the residence of James Farmer, Esq.* One-tree Hill. The hour fixed for the commencement of the match was half.-past one o'clock, but, from various causes beyond human control, a considerable delay took place before all preliminaries could be satiifactorily arranged. In the first plaae it was found, from the extreme severity of the weather durjngjbhe morning, that some of the officers ot ttter ♦ Galatea' could not land from that vessel j and, we believe, the time occupied by his Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh and party in getting ashore exceeded threequarters of an hour. In consequence of the Absence from this cause o£ two officers of the 'Galatea,' his Royal Highne»s w»9 allowed to select Captain. Machell and Xhr. Kingalgy to make up his teitn. Th« result proved in favour of the officers of the • Galatea' by two marks, as will be seen by the following score :—: — Ist Match.
