ALEXANDRA: THE ANNUAL SPORTS.
Gun annual sports came off on the 3rd, and were a great success ; the day was kept by all classes as a holiday. For the first race, the Maiden Plate, there were five entries, which resulted in Mr. Boon's horse, Rory O'More, being declared the winner. For the Galloway Race there were five entries. This was the best raoe of the day, and was won by Mr. Baker's Boko ; Mr. Hope's Minnie a good second. The value of the stakes was £8, with ]os. entrance added. For the Alexandra Stakes, value £8, six horses came to the post, and the race was won easily by Mr. Henry Turner's Billy Barlow; Mr. Boon's Pretender second. A Maori and Hack Race followed, which concluded a very pleasant day's sport. By the way, I must mention that the Eoyfl] Mail Plate, run foi 1 at the -Hamilton Tfaccs, and presented by Mr. Quick of AueMand, was won by an Alexandra horse— namely, Mr. Turner's Pretender. — The native news has not been of any exciting nature since my last letter, bivt yesterday Whitiora, and all the Hauturu natives, where the mmderers of Mr. Todd are residing, came on to the Kopua fiat well armed, and were employed all day catching their horses running theie. Ido not know if they have returned or not this morning. — On December 24 was married at St. Saviour's Church, by the Rev. C. L. Brady, Miss Mary Hetet, daughter of Mr. Louis Hetet, of Otorohanga, to Mr. Thomas Turner, of Kaipiha. Mr. Hetet being much respected here, and, as we consider, a sort of outlying picket for the settlement, a large number of friends were present to witness the ceremony. — On Monday night Mr. Frank Towers's Ministrels gave a theatrical entertainment to a large and well-pleased audience.— [Own Correspondent^
