We have files of Dunedin papers to tlio 8th. The Daily Times of that date reports : — "There is still great quietness in all departments of business, and in the import market only the most meagre transactions going forward, and while it lasts very little up«country trade can be expected. Markets, however, presei ve a firm teelmg. In breadstuffs and grain there is no change beyond an improved inquiry for oats, and the probability of slightly better rates. The business done in the auction marts has been unimportant." The same paper of June 7 reports : — "Messrs. McLandress, Hepburn, and Co. report that they yesterday held their periodical sale of flax. 'I he inclemency of the weather prevented the usual full attendance of buyers, and in consequence the sale was languid. Unseutched flax is now quite unsaleable; buyers will only look at the best-dressed samples. Of the 50 tons catalogued, only the following lines were sold : — 15 bales scutched flax, at 19?. per ton; 5 bales scutched flax at 19Z. per ton ; 15 bales scutched flax, 14Z. 15s per ton, inferior sample. " T'-e Times of June 6 has the following : — "Only a meagre trade has been done in the grain market, the demand being almost wholly confined to local requirements ; there has been no speculative business going forward, and shipments are of no moment. In wheats there have been sales at, for good parcels, 3s 9d to 4s. Barley is not in demand. Oats have been in better request, 2s 5d to 2s 6d having been obtainable. The demand for flour is steady. At t* e town mills, quotations remain at 10?. 10s to 11£."
