We have Canterbury papers to the 13th. The Lyttdton Times reports : — " The demand for candles remains active ; we have heard of no sales over Is 0£d. Buyers of kerosine are operating from hand to mouth ; few if any lines have been quitted under 4s. Cornsacks : Holders generally are firm at 14s. A few forced sales have transpired at 13s 6d. Sugars, white crystals, 51?. to 52/. ; 10 sugar, .51/. 10s to 527.10s. These prices cannot remain much longer. Hennessy's and Martell's brandy : Sales are made at 7s 6d. Hennessy's case is activo at 29s to 30s. S.B. Old Tom, in cases, is out of first hands, and consequently the price has advanced in proportion. Campbellton, Dunville, and Islay whiskey, in bulk, is meeting with a steady inquiry. Low and medium ports are exclusively inquired for, other wines being particularly dull. Lee and Perrin's sauce, in pints and halves, continues in active request, and the ' Maori's ' shipment is already quitted at paying rates. Holders of wheat m store have advanced quotations, and 3s 4d to 3s 5cl are their selling rates. The farmers, however, cannot obtain over 3a Id to 3s 2 i for usual deliveries. Oats on hand, ready for shipment, can be quoted at 2s 3^d to 2a 4d for superior samples. Very few parcels are offetirg by the growers, and 2s Id to 23 3d is freely given, according to quality. We still give the nominal quotation for barley at 3s to 3s 6d. Several large lines of butter have been placed at 8jjd to 9d. Cheese is in moderate request at6.id."
