OUR OFFICIAL AGENT.

To the Editor of the Daily Southern Cross, Sia, — The Government having appointed an Official Agent, that gentleman has already commenced operations against the unfortunate holders of stamped waate paper ; but, judging from hia success so far in Court,' I fear he has taken "arms against a sea of troubles." My reason for writing to-day, however, was neither to sympathise with nor blame Mr* Otway ; I merely wish to remind the public that the Act specially provides for the appointment algo of an Official Auditor, whose duty it will be to see that all moneys recovered by the Official Agent fromshareholders in the/various companies aye duly administered, including Qf coursethepereentage retained for his owniexpenses. The importanceofsuchanoffieialjSbfarasthepublic is concerned, is simply immense, and I am only astonished that the two appointments were not made at the same time. The Official Agent, no doubt, possesses the confidence of the Government, or else he would not be where he is ; and the Official Anditor must fee some mm learned in figures, and also quite Above suspicion.— l am, &o. t . P. H. jCroto.
