WESLEYAN CHURCH ANNIVERSARY AT THE THAMES.
The second anniversary, of the Wesleyan Church, Shortland, was celebrated by a soiree on Wednesday eveming, which was a perfect success, about 360 persons being present. The tables were presided over by Mesdames Joynt, Cocka, Power, Dawson, and the Misses Heldt, Ninnis, Chapel, and Meacham. — The Rev. Mr. Buller took the ohair, and delivered a short opening address. — Mr, J. Fletcher read the general report, from which it appeared that, with the alterations of re-seating the chapel and adding vestries, they hud incurred a debt of nearly £200; but with contributions, &c, thia Has been greatly reduced, the whole of the liabilities being, only £100. —Mr. W. Eowe spoke rather severely upon the present fashions in dresa among ladies. He quoted an old law which treated the gentler sex who wore high-heeled boota and false hair as sor-, cerers. He preferred the puritanical style of the seventeenth century. — /The Revs. S. "Wilson and Hill followed in a congratulatory strain, and each" extended the Jaand'of Christian, .brotherhood to; ; Mr. Buller.— Mj\ Kernick proposed, the ,uaual ,vote,of : thanlcV to the ladies, which was ablyr seconded,, by the Rev, Mr.Smale. .
