HAMILTON: FORMATION OF JOCKEY CLUB. May 11.
The adjourned meeting for the purpose of forming a Waikate Jockey Club took place at the Hamilton Hotel on Tuesday evening. A committee -was appointed, consisting of two gentlemen from each district in the Waikato ; and it was arranged that their first meeting to consider rules, site for racecourse, &c, should be held at Ohaupo on the first Monday in June, at one o'clock. Mr. John Knox was appointed Secretary and Treasurer. The meeting at the start was rather noisy, owing to the conduct of a few who tried to upset everything proposed. The exertions of the District School Committee in establishing a schoorhave,l amhappy to say, been crowned with success. The average attendance has reached forty-five, and the committee have decided on making application to the Central Board for a small grant, to enable them to engage a female teacher. They have also decided on establishing a. Library and Readiag Room, under clause 42 of the Common School Act.
